Who we are
We are a network of about 60 therapists who work independently as sole practitioners across London. We are all highly trained senior professionals with many years experience.
All IPS therapists are professionally registered and are annually licensed to practice. We are obliged to comply with the ethical, practice and continuing professional development guidelines of our respective professional registration bodies, as well as with General Data Protection Regulations.
IPS therapists include:
Psychologists:
Clinical (specialising in adults, children or
neuro-psychology)
Counselling
Educational
Psychologists have applied training as Clinical, Counselling or Educational
Psychologists. They are trained in: understanding how people think, feel, act
and relate; in the use of talking therapies; and in delivering psychological
assessment and research. Training is to doctoral level.
Registration is with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). IPS
Psychologists are also Chartered members of the British Psychological Society
(BPS)
Consultant Psychiatrists (specialising in adults,
children or perinatal)
Psychiatrists are trained as medical doctors and then specialise in mental
health problems. They can prescribe medication.
Registration is with the General Medical Council (GMC)); IPS Psychiatrists
are also members of The Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRC Psych)
Psychotherapists: (specialising in adults,
children, psychoanalytic, systemic or integrative)
Psychotherapists have had extensive training in talking therapies that explore
and develop an understanding of difficulties in life and relationships, and
empower change.
Registration is with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC); the United
Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists (UKCP) or the Association of Child
Psychotherapists (ACP)
Psychoanalysts
Psychoanalysts have undertaken intensive training in working with people
several times per week. Client and analyst work together to explore the
unconscious conflicts that drive current problems and by bringing these into
awareness, make them open to reflection and change.
Registration is with the British Psychoanalytical Society (BPAS); the
British Psychoanalytical Association (BPA); the International Psychoanalytical
Association (IPA) and the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)
Psychodynamic Counsellors
Counsellors train in providing a supportive relationship for exploring problems
in life and relationships.
Registration is with the British Association for Counselling and
Psychotherapy (BACP)
CBT Therapists (adult and child)
IPS Cognitive Behaviour Therapists are Clinical Psychologists who have had
further training in CBT. This approach highlights the distortions in thinking
and the chains of automatic negative thoughts that lead to symptoms.
Registration is with the HPC and British Association of Behavioural and
Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)
Couple, Family, Group
Therapists
These therapists train in understanding and working with couples, families or
groups to identify and change unhelpful patterns of relating.
Registration is with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC); the United
Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists (UKCP); British Society of Couple
Psychotherapists and Counsellors (BSCPC); Institute of Family Therapy (IPT); or
Institute of Group Analysis (IGA)
